Carsurvey.org (carsurvey.org) has great Hyundai Elantra news, photos, videos and more
What things have gone wrong with the car? Some wheel bearings to replace, front pipe twice, tie rods or ball joint a few times. Idle computer has been changed.
What things have gone wrong with the car? The trunk opener sticks a little and doesn't always open completely. Rocks tend to get stuck in tire area and make quite a bit of noise.
What things have gone wrong with the car? This car has leaked water heavily into the trunk and rear floor area since new (6-2008).
Nothing so far. These cars have come a long way since the 80's. Comfortable ride, decent fuel economy, lots of features for the money, reliable.
My problem is not that the headlight bulbs have been burning out but that the outside of the headlight seems coated with some type of residue. (One other writer referred to his headlight problem as "the glass has fogged so badly that I can barely see... on a dark night".
What things have gone wrong with the car? The piston was cracked, so I had to rebuild the engine at 235,000 KM. And every 40,000 KM I have to change the shock absorbers; this could be because of uneven roads, but the Camry I had before had no problem with jumps.
A great car. Runs perfect. Another success on Hyundai's part" What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothings gone wrong so far. Car seems like it has plenty of pep even for a 4 cyl. Is roomy inside and has a lot of appeal. Dash is well designed and is easy to read all gages. However mine had a cassette player in it and dealer changed out for a CD player at no charge.
What things have gone wrong with the car? I have a 2000 Hyundai GLS, it periodically for no apparent reason would not start. The ignition would crank over, and never spark to start. Come back a few days later, it would start, it progressively got worse a worse.
Excellent value and rock solid dependability! This has been one great car for the price!
General comments? My father just bought a used 08 Elantra, and I must say I cannot drive this car. I own an 07 Sonata 3.3L V6, which I love. It has good power, it is comfortable, and it has more than enough room...
All cars with timing belts and not timing chains, with 16 valves (4 cylinders) twin camshaft, have to change timing belt all the time!! (Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, etc). The Civics of 90s are very sensitive on this point. Many broken Honda engines, due to this fact.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Nothing. Everything works OK. Fuel consumption is excellent, providing an impressive 13 km/L in city commuting, but being the 1.6 engine, 123 HP, it could use more power.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Every window on our car has broken nothing works, all we hear is the motor that raises the windows. The first 2 rear windows went out, and when we tried to raise them up, some of the cable came up with the windows halfway.
General comments? So far this has been an impressive car, even though we just bought it 3 weeks ago. It has a very solid feeling car, not cheap at all.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Front strut broke at 45K, replaced under warranty. Battery went dead after 5 years, $65 for replacement at Sams Club.
Car was 10200 out the door with tax. Money well spent!" What things have gone wrong with the car?
Prepare to want one! Performs well, but you'll soon be on a first name basis with your local Hyundai Service Dept.
Transmission was replaced 3 times and after the last time dealer refused to do anything else, even though the car was still under warranty. We first noticed the problem after about 500 miles was on the car. It started be sluggish going up hills not shifting out of gear.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Approximately 1.5 months after purchase, the fuel gauge quit reading full when the tank was filled.
Fuel consumption is bad. Not what the dealer claimed. Averaging 8KM per liter. Dealer claimed 11KM per liter. Driving less than 3000RPM and less than 100KM/Hr on normal city driving. After performed 1st 1000KM service, they checked the timing for fuel consumption, but still the same.
The timing belt went and the car stalled. Wouldn't restart and had to have it towed into the shop. Did you know that regular maintenance is replacing the timing belt at 60,000 miles. If you don't you void the 100k warranty.
• Replaced plastic side panel on driver's side of dash due to discoloration under warranty. • Replaced strut that was groaning and creaking. I believe this became the subject of a TSB. This too was covered under warranty.
I bought my car in 2005 used, I thought I was getting a great deal... A few weeks later, the car wouldn't start, had it towed four separate occasions for its not starting problems. Eventually it would start for no apparent reasons, no mechanics could tell me what it was...
One tire out of round on delivery, replaced under warranty. We purchased (2) Elantras, both are identical 2008 GLS models with the popular equipment group. One is brand new. The other is a former rental with 18,000 miles on it. It looks and runs near new and had a clean car fax.
My MP3 player didn't seem to be installed properly. The dealer replaced it easily. The engine stalled on very cold mornings. It would just go a few hundred yards and stall. The dealer is currently working on this problem as they've never heard of it before. It's getting to be seriously annoying.
My mother in her mid 50's purchased a 2003 Elantra 5sp. At around 25,000 k's clutch went and dealers didn't want to listen to talk to her. Went again at around 45,000 and now it has almost gone again at 70,000! Time to sell, very disappointing.
I had my brand-new Elantra for about 26 hours (I drove it 100 miles since I bought it), when it malfunctioned and died in the middle of an intersection. I tried to have it towed, but HRA was a total failure. They could not get a tow truck until the next day.
The times they are a changing!" What things have gone wrong with the car? General comments?
I just had my clutch repaired, which cost about 1700.00, and a week later, it has gone out, again. The car only has 51,000 miles on it. I purchased it used and am wondering if previous owner had the same issue and traded it in, since I purchased it with 21,000 miles on it.
