What things have gone wrong with the car? Wow, you all seem to have bad luck with this Jeep. I have had my Jeep since brand new, all I've done is keep up on the oil changes, brakes etc.
Alternator at 65,000km. Brake pads and rotors at 40,000km. Front swaybar links replaced twice, once under warranty. Rear wiper motor died. Front u-joints, steering stabilizer, and centre link replaced just after warranty expired.
What things have gone wrong with the car? The only thing that has gone wrong with this Jeep is the brakes and rotors wear quicker then usual.. And it requires frequent oil changes.
A general question to the audience - for those of us with water in the floor caused by a very bad design on the part of Jeep engineering, is a solution simply to drill a hole in the floor to drain away the water? What's the worst thing that could happen if I do this?
What things have gone wrong with the car? Well there was not many things wrong when I got it, but the headlamps were very foggy, and still are, and a few minor things.
What things have gone wrong with the car? 1st week of ownership, "check engine" light came on, dealer diagnosed "transmission malfunction" (unable to figure out what problem is).
What things have gone wrong with the car? Had to replace the power steering pump, twice. The pump started to grind a while, then the steering became pretty stiff. After a week with this problem, the pump made a popcorn type of noise.
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport. 6 Cyl, 4.0L. A year ago I was losing coolant out the bottom and had no idea where from. After a couple weeks the drop of coolant turned into a cup of coolant. I took it to the dealer and it was the freeze plugs rusted through. $1200 later the problem was fixed.
MY car before my JEEP was a 2001 MAZDA PROTEGE. The heater stopped working within the first year of being bought. I purchased it new with only eleven miles on it. The rear defroster also quit working six months later. The stereo went out one week prior to the heater.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Both front brake rotors replaced. Emergency brake repaired. Front differential bearings replaced. Rear differential bearings replaced.
What things have gone wrong with the car? My service four wheel drive light comes on. It runs great and there's nothing wrong with it. I had my transfer cases looked at, and they are good. I think it's a bad sensor, and I just might unplug it because the Jeep runs great.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Climate control/heater box problems. Fuel pump o-ring failure caused delayed start up - $10 fix. Exterior emblems have lost their clearcoat and paint.
Since the day I bought it, I noticed a whining noise from the rear. My mechanic looked at it and replaced all of the bearings and such and told me there was nothing wrong. The whining is quieter now, but still exists. From other reviews I have noticed that it's "just a Jeep thing".
What things have gone wrong with the car? I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. When I bought it the vehicle ran fine. Four days of owning it the transmission fell apart. OK $850.00 later new transmission. Then a week later the motor started to flood out. Now I have gas in my oil.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Coolant sensor bad. Gear shift lever detent lock (covered by recall notice).
What things have gone wrong with the car? My first car was a heavily used 1997 Ford Escort. That car never gave me any trouble whatsoever until the engine finally gave in.
What things have gone wrong with the car? While hill-climbing with a bunch of friends, my water pump froze up, breaking my serpentine belt, requiring me to get towed halfway home by a friend who was off-roading with me. The rest of the way I was trailered back by my dad.
What things have gone wrong with the car? I purchased a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in January of 2006 to replace my 1991 JGC Laredo that was flooded due to hurricane Katrina. Clean Carfax and one owner. Loved the leather interior, working AC and heat.
I have had my 99 Jeep Cherokee Laredo for 6 years. I have put about 100,000 since having it. Now I am having the clunk of the transmission only putting it in reverse, and it will not shift gears when driving for the first few minutes. After a few minutes it's fine and drives normal.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Constant coolant leaks, 3rd transmission, light issues, transfer case issues this suv has been in the shop at least 2 times per year for major issues since I purchased it.
I have a 2005 JGC that I purchased used from the dealer about a year ago. Just before Christmas my airbag lights came on and stayed on and shortly after my headlights and interior dash lights would begin flickering as I was driving down the road at night.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Driver door power assembly has shorted twice. Dome and courtesy lights turn on and won't go off. Brake lights keep going out -- bulbs are fine!
I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It now has 200,000 miles and still runs good. My wife has a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited and it has been a constant lemon. Both front window motors have been replaced. It eats brakes, rotors, tires, and calibers. Now the rear axles needs replacing.
Hello. I've just posted a short while ago about my seat being broken. I've since (with the help of my engineer roommate, Peter) found a 5 dollar fix to this problem. Go to your local auto part store and get some 3" radiator hose clamps (the type you screw tight.)
What things have gone wrong with the car? Brake calipers locked up on the front end the first day I bought this rolling money pit. I have replaced the power steering pump 4 times in the last 6 months.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Heater core: where the hose attaches was starting to seep coolant. Fuel Pump: Was making a squeaking noise whilst operating. When ignition turned on, the priming was becoming nosier gradually. Affects highway performance too.
I have a 1996 Jeep GC Laredo and it has gray interior. I've been looking for a new driver's side door panel and haven't had any luck. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
I bought mine new in 2001, and have had problems from the beginning. It seems that all of us have had the same problems. Brake/rotor vibration problems almost from the beginning. Replaced twice. When I took my car into the dealership, they replaced it the first time with no questions asked.
What things have gone wrong with the car? 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited rear wheel drive. Three years living in Maine and Massachusetts, and all other years in North Carolina... this vehicle have been surprisingly pleasant and worry free.

Man's best friend in ND! This Jeep is awesome!
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SUCKS!" What things have gone wrong with the car? My driver side taillight no longer works and just recently the brake part quit as well.
I purchased a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition last February. I loved the vehicle at first! Then my driver's side window stopped working. That was fine, I could deal with that. Then the heat and the a/c stopped working. Apparently the doors that regulate the heat are broken.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Leather on seats wore out TERRIBLY quick.. huge holes on seats. Liner on the ceiling of the car is falling off.. has to be pinned up to stay up, so when the windows are down, the foam inside the top of the car flies all over the car and makes a mess.
Tranny, water pump, battery, alternator, starter shocks, rotors, tires, ball joints, bad radiator, noise coming from rear end. Engine was never touched.
Coil wire popped off after severe off roading. This Jeep is very comfortable. The leather seats are still in great shape. The interior is still perfect.
I love my Jeep. It's been reliable, it's great on ice and in the rain. I get 21-24mpg on the hwy" What things have gone wrong with the car?
In chronological order... Warped rotors replaced with drilled rotors and ceramic pads. Now no more problems. Hood shocks replaced. Window regulator replaced from ebay, $19 twice.
Fan relay went. Overheating problem, fixed with a new radiator cap. Having some engine ticking during idle. Oil pressure is great. I change it frequently.
I own a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and experience the "4WD Switch requires servicing" warning on a frequent occurrence, usually when the car is warm and hitting a bump in the road.
I don't know about pumping the brakes like the one user suggested, that also has an effect on the antilock braking system. I drive my 2000 Grand HARD! I have 125000 miles on it and only put one set of rotors on it... I've done all the brake work on the Jeep myself.
Here is the official TSB on the brake issues for 2000-2002 JGC's. We've done the recommended work and I haven't had a problem since - however, I do agree that Jeep needs to do something about this.
I bought the 2003 JGC in 2006. After 2 weeks I noticed the ticking sound so I brought it back to the dealership. They told me it would stop and it was only making that sound because the car hasn't been driven in a while.
The only problems I have had is the drivers side window would not go up at about 114,000 miles. It was easily fixed by an independent service shop. Car runs well, and I have always had good service from Jeep 4 wheel drives.
Not a bad car, and I am generally happy. Will consider a newer model again" What things have gone wrong with the car?
I love my Jeep. The only problem that I have with it is that I have to replace the rotors and calipers every 12-15,000 miles. My dealer has been more than helpful. They have replaced the rotors and calipers five times for me.
Since I purchased the car I've had two lock acuators fail, the passenger side door and the rear hatch. I also have the same tail light issue as everyone else.
