What things have gone wrong with the car? General comments? Don't bother with the automatic. The 97 with the 5 speed is nearly 2 seconds quicker to 60, and pulls hard till 135mph.
What things have gone wrong with the car? My valve body in the transmission had to be replaced. General comments?
Family sedan or sports car in disguise?? Love it love it love it!!!
What things have gone wrong with the car? I have a 2005 Maxima and I am having the same transmission problems that everyone else is having. The car has 79,000, and since December has problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.
Actually, Infiniti is Nissan's premium brand. The vehicles are better quality because they are all made in Japan unlike the Maxima and Altima, which are both manufactured in Smyrna, TN.
None at all. But only 5000 on the car so its early. Decided to move up to a larger car (from a Skoda Octavia). Looked through a bunch of options in this price range from Chevrolet Epica (Engine too small), Toyota Camry (too boring), Nissan Maxima (too common), Mitsubishi Magna (feels cheap).
I have owned my 2004 Maxima since it was new. At around 65,000 miles the transmission starting slipping and gives a severe jerk between 1st and 2nd gears, mostly after the car has warmed up sufficiently.
No actually my cars are built on a 30 year old platform: The mighty Panther platform.
What things have gone wrong with the car? General comments? We are all having the same problems with our 2004 Nissan Maxima .. This is caused by a defective valve body assembly that Nissan is yet to recall.
I have a 2005 Maxima and as I read these comments, I've realized that I'm experiencing the same probs. Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear really hard, but not all of the time. Sometimes are worse than others. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet but I plan on it very soon. This should be a recall...
What things have gone wrong with the car? My transmission is going out, and I have 106K miles on my car. I thought Nissan made good cars.. boy was I wrong. I called Nissan and they would not do anything about it. I have the same problems that everyone else is having (jerking b/w 1st and 2nd gear).
What things have gone wrong with the car? I bought a used 2005 Maxima last year and it had 78000 miles. After the first week I ended taking the car back because it was jerking. Long story short, I have filed a complaint to NHTSA, which assists people who have major complaints with their car.
What things have gone wrong with the car? I'm writing about my Dad's Maxima. He bought it from the dealer in 2000. Takes it in like clockwork to the same dealer for routine maintenance.. always.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Minor exhaust leak at muffler -- expected wear. Tie-rod ends -- expected wear. Seized rear brake caliper. General comments?
Number of comments: 272, Summary: Great car, great interior, some irritating interior detail flaws. I'm going back to a Honda next
Just like you guys! I have flick the key a couple times to get the starter to operate. Nothing to me. Evidently the CD thing is not an issue for me. I have a very nice new stereo that plays my CDs mp3/wmas and has an SD card and USB input!
What things have gone wrong with the car? Fall of 07' - Starter Replaced. 11/08 - last inspection, was told rear driver side wheel cylinder wasn't very bad yet but needs to be replaced.
A proper sedan with guts--Rockin' the Sharkima!" What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima with 78,000 miles. As many people have reported, I am also having transmission problems. The car is currently in the shop so that the transmission can be rebuilt at a cost over $2000. I am disappointed with this vehicle and will never buy Nissan again.
What things have gone wrong with the car? To all the people out there that have a 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. I have same problems that you do. I went online and read other people posts, and they had exact same problems that I do. Most of the time it is mass air flow sensor.
I have probably spent more on car repairs than payments since I bought my car 17 months ago. I have had the alternator, starter, and O2 sensors replaced twice.
I have 125,000 miles on Nissan Maxima 2004 and have never had any problems with the car. I change the oil every 5,000 miles, the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles, radiator flush every two years. Changed the belts twice. The ONLY issue I have is the freakin' headlights.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Lots of shaking upon acceleration - I think the struts needed to be replaced, but I never did it. Rear brakes made a whining sound as you braked and were just about to come to a complete stop.
ATTENTION. So I posted my complaint on carsurvey about 6 - 9 months ago, just like everyone has that same transmission problem. I own a 04 Maxima that I purchsed in Sept of 05, with 25K miles, but now it has 90K. I started to have the problems around the 60K miles mark.
Transmission problems started at 96000 miles. Nice car. I loved Nissan Maximas until now. My 2004 Maxima is no different. It hesitates after you put the car in D or R, it jerks hard, and shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, and slips real bad in a turn.
2000 GLE MAXIMA. Bought a few yrs. ago with 37k miles. No major problems, now @ 108k miles.
Great performance and reliability! Nissan will never get another penny from me!
First, let me say that I am 47, and do not ever abuse my cars. I bought a 2001 Maxima GLE new with extended warranty. Got more than my money's worth with that warranty because of the constant repairs. Got sick of it and and finally traded for a reliable Toyota.
Fuel injectors, window regulators, transmission slips all within 5000 miles! This car only looks great everthing else is garbage I thought by buying a nissan I would have no problems especially with the miles it has!
Bose stereo - speaker/amp blown $500 to replace (didn't do that). Bose caseette never worked well. Did not fix. Now stereo is almost worthless with whining noises and???
This car still puts a smile on my face. If you punch the gas, you will sink into the seat as the world flies by! I will never buy any other car other than a Nissan Maxima. It handles like a dream and is as fast as any other sedan. ...
This 97 maxima is my second one, I had a 92 maxima gxe earlier. the interior door panels and e-brake/armrest console are more poorly made in the 97. I do enjoy the steering wheel, the car has great sightlines. ...
Our cars put 255ft lbs of torque to the flywheel. This transmission's maximum torque rating is 245ft lbs of torque. This is a complete Frankenstein disaster that was set to fail. This issue is very dangerous. ...
Region: North America, Summary: Nice if it actually ran!
Region: North America, Summary: This is a very nice performance family sedan with some electrical and tranny issues.
Region: North America, Summary: It really is a sports car in a tux.
