To add to my 10-17-09 comment. 11-12-09. Well so far so good, there has been some rainy days and the water has stayed out so far. It's now getting cold and low temps.. but our winters get lots of rain too. I will keep an eye on it.
I will never buy a Volkswagen again!" What things have gone wrong with the car?
Let's see, windows repaired under warranty, check engine light came on and VW charged $200 for reprogramming (later refunded) cupholder failed, glove box failed, center console failed (actually replaced it finally), belt tensioner failed, fuel pump shroud failed, hoses failed, an...
I have a 2006 Jetta and the paint on the buttons is bubbling and falling off too. I hope someone has some advice... It seems that Volkswagon won't admit that the paint blisters on late model Jetta and Passat radios. The paint on my '06 Jetta is blistering and falling off the radio buttons.
I have a 97 jetta GT and she runs nice for having almost 150000 on it... cruise control is a problem but really is a reliable car.
Relatively new car (just over one year). No defects to date. I noticed there were no reviews of the 2003 GLI so I figured I would add one. I purchased this car just over a year ago, for those not familiar with the GLI it is the sportier version of the Jetta.
Nothing so far. I bought the car in February early this year, one of the first Mark 5 Jettas to be sold in Brazil. The Jetta is one fine looking car - it looks superb in Mystic Black with the (optional) 17-inch wheels. The chrome grille gives a very imposing look to it.
I have a 2001 VR6. I love the way the engine runs, and the trans is super responsive, but everything else breaks. I have only 65000 miles and I had 4 recalls done, mirror switch broke, rattles all over, console broke twice and front door regulators broke.
What things have gone wrong with the car? My electronic compass kept disappearing, lucky it was when it was still on warranty. Happened 3 separate times. My latest issue has been when the vent is on, it fogs up. I am forced to drive with my AC on at all times to mitigate the issue.
I own a 2002 Jetta GLS 1.8t, about 70k miles. I have issues between 2nd and 3rd gear, as many people have stated, and was told it would cost 5000 to replace the transmission. Further, I already went through this same problem at around 50k miles, while it was still under warranty. Ridiculous.
More trouble than it's worth! Affordable, fun to drive and cheap on fuel!
I have had my 02 Jetta for several years now and had a couple minor cosmetic problems (interior peeling), but recently my radio died out of nowhere, just found out my brake lights don't work and the lights for the heating/ac don't work. Has anybody had any of these problems?
This is my feeling on our purchase of a 1997 VW Jetta GL, Automatic, in January of 2001, with apx. 30K miles on it. In our opinion, We may purchase another VW, since the car just will not die. Me and my wife are waiting for it to die, since it has more problems than any other car I have ever owned.
Nothing yet... I haven't actually purchased the car, and will not be purchasing it either! This was just a story about my test-drive! I love Volkswagen's more than any other car ever made! I grew up in a VW household... everyone in my family drives them and they are all as crazy for them as I am!
What things have gone wrong with the car? Well, this car has had its fair share of issues, and some have been resolved, but some are still causing some problems.
No problems with the car so far. We have now owned our 2009 Jetta TDI for one month. Our first tested tank of fuel since the break-in period ended netted us 40 mpg. We were averaging 42 mpg in the 2007 Prius we owned before this car.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Electrical malfunction with door and trunk sensors. Windshield leaks. Clutch worn out at 55000. Suspension out on front drivers side.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Right rear tire air leak. Out of alignment on purchase date. General comments?
What things have gone wrong with the car? Timing belt. Water pump. Serpentine belt. Brakes.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Cup holders came apart right after the warranty expired. Replaced the engine at 80,000. Alarm will not shut off (intermittent). I have to endure 30 seconds of horn beeping and never know when this is going to happen.
I will elaborate a little bit with my own general experience with modern Volkswagen. I am a college student, and have always preferred the Volkswagen brand for numerous reasons.
Nothing so far, but it's only 2 days old! I love this car. As I was driving up a long hill in 5th gear with more power to spare, I was thinking that what more could someone ask for? Enthusiast performance thanks to the torque of this car, combined with incredible gas mileage.
I have a 2003 Jetta. Well, now I already forgot about multiple visits to the dealer for "check engine" light. They could never figure it out so they would just reset it. After a while, it would turn on, then turn off after a bit of driving etc. It has not been on in a while.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Most recently, the radio won't turn on, tried fuse #42 and it worked. The engine revs sometimes 150 to 300 rpm while traveling between 40 to 90 kmh as seen on the tach and heard from the engine.
I've had my 2006 GLI with DSG transmission since it was brand new. Initially is had no problems, I had a few minor issues including a door lock that didn't work and an airbag light that came on. Today I was driving and the car just turned off!
What things have gone wrong with the car? General comments? Great German car feel. Great torque. Fantastic fuel economy.
What things have gone wrong with the car? General comments? The Jetta was my second vehicle and was an upgrade from my epically unreliable Toyota Corolla (1983).
If I ever sell this fun, reliable car, I will hug it before letting it go. The 2000 VR6 is an over priced poorly built piece of JUNK!
Air bag, air bag light, brake lights, ignition system, battery died many time, paint peeled, engine light keeps coming on, too many noises... sounds cheap like a Ford.
What things have gone wrong with the car? First of all.. Both my back windows don't work. I had them replaced for $70 each motor. The next thing that went were the spark plugs and wires. That ran me $475.00. I had those replaced because cylinder number one was miss firing.
What things have gone wrong with the car? I have a used 2001 VW Jetta, and when this one goes, I probably won't buy another one. At first it was a few basic problems, new tires, front end alignment, etc. After the warranty ran out, the problems REALLY started!
What things have gone wrong with the car? Nothing so far, but it's only 2 days old! General comments?
I have a 2005 Jetta TDI wagon, have a bit over 60,000 km. on it now, and I love it! I take one annual long trip to the U.S. and once I get across the border the speed limits go up. I set the cruise on 130 kph and still get about 48 mpg (Imperial) on a 3,000 km. trip.
I have a 2003 Jetta Wagon TDi - Not a single problem experienced until this week - water in the rear passenger area. Any ideas? Thanks.
I purchased a 2003 Jetta GLS with 48,000 miles on it on November 21, 2008. Within 30 days of purchasing the car, I have had to take it to the shop on 4 different occasions (ignition switch, starter, coolant system, temperature gauge) in which the car stayed overnight.
What things have gone wrong with the car? Had clutch replaced at around 3500 miles, due to dual mass flywheel malfunction. General comments?
The VW Jetta V6 is extremely unreliable; it has required numerous repairs and has had numerous recalls.
This car is great I love my TDI! Worst Car Ever!!! Stay Away!!!
OK, I recently purchased a 1997 black Jetta GT. My first car. The speedometer and odometer, pretty much the dash gauges don't work. I think it may be a fuse or something isn't connected, because they do occasionally work.
I have a 2003 Jetta 1.8T. I have had it for over a year now and I have been very happy with it. When I bought it, the car had 74,000 miles on it and now it's up to 120,000.
Air intake issue caused the car to lose speed on the highway. Had it checked by two mechanics who couldn't figure the problem. Took the car in to a VW dealership and the mechanic knew exactly what the problem was right away, $150 fixed it.
Leakage problem with sunroof and door seals. Various electrical problems. I have an 2002 Jetta Wagon GLS, and although I've had many of the same problems everyone else has mentioned, I still enjoy the car and will probably keep it for another 80,000 miles.
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My 2001 VW JETTA 1.8T Wolfsburg has had most of the problems you mentioned earlier. I live in Upstate New York and this car has weathered the temperature here. That said, the hot/cold start issues, the crazy "frog" engine, and all.
Hi I own a 2002 Jetta 1.8 turbo with an automatic transmission. I have recently been trying to fight Volkswagen for failure of the transmission at 64,000 miles.
Hi All. I have a 2001 VR6 Jetta GLS bought new in California. This one was assembled in Mexico. It has 114,700 miles on it. I have to echo one of the earlier posts.
2002 1.8 Turbo Jetta, had it since 2006 and been in the VW dealership shop 7 times. Okay, now for something totally new. On average 3 times a week, my Jetta needs to warm up for about 3-4 min before it will go anywhere. I mean, I try to leave, but the only thing moving is my RPM's.
Water pump 47,000 covered under warranty. Engine light on for last 4000 miles (they are not sure what it is). Sunroof opens whenever it wants to. It's a drag when it's raining. Never happens at the dealership.
I have had a Volkswagen TDI for 7 years now. I have experienced some of the problems such as the waste gate, glove box hinge, and a few others. Some of this learning about diesel's is going to be new to most Americans.
VW needs to be held accountable!" What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fun, fun, Fun, get teptronic! I used to own a Jetta and I loved it. Now I do not feel like I own a reliable car
